Happy New Year!

It’s that time of year again… time to make the annual New Year’s resolutions about getting in shape, exercising more, starting a diet, etc. We all tend to start off great in January (the gyms are packed!) and maybe continue into February. But then life gets in the way, we aren’t as interested or motivated, and we slip back into old habits.

Unfortunately, making resolutions doesn’t usually work – mostly they cause short-term stress and are so easily forgotten come February or March. However, if increased fitness and healthy habits are your goals, then you do have to start somewhere. Might as well be now! The truth is, every day that goes by puts us that much farther from achieving success. This is a time of reflection and change, and when we look back it’s easy to have regrets about not starting sooner. We often do wish we had started a year ago, and a year from now – you will likely wish you had started today.

Make this the year for you! Remember, it doesn’t have to be all or nothing, because small changes can make big differences. Think about what you’d like to accomplish specifically – taking daily walks, running, lifting weights, changing your diet, or whatever goal you’d like to reach. Consistent progress is the key, and it can seem slow, but if you can commit to developing new habits then I promise you, a year from now, you WILL be glad you started today.
